Instagram likes; what happened? How will this decision affect the photo-sharing service? and how will it affect the automation community?
Users who participated in the test will no longer be able to see the total number of Instagram likes on a picture other users posted, nor the views on videos on the feed and on profile pages.
But wait, can users still like posts (by double-clicking on content)? The answer is Yes! Will users still be able to see the number of Instagram likes their own photos received? The answer is yes! Will users be able to see who liked their friends’ posts? The answer is Yes! Users will be able to open the list of users who liked the photo but cannot see the total amount of likes.
And what does Instagram has to say about its new strategy? A spokesperson of Facebook (the owner of Instagram) stated that “the feedback from early testing has been positive, this is a fundamental change to Instagram, and so we’re continuing our test to learn more from our global community”
So who will suffer from this new change? Probably influencers, since part of their reputation is based on how many Instagram likes they receive on their content. Is it good for the automation community? We believe it is. The main reason is that people will not be able to judge the engagement level and our job will be much easier.
Now, the only thing we can do is wait and see what Instagram will decide. Will it disappear permanently?
