What Are Semi-Dedicated Proxies? — The Social Proxy

A semi-dedicated proxy server is a lesser-known form of proxy server that offers some of the benefits of private proxies while avoiding some of the problems of shared proxies. While there are numerous proxy kinds, each with its own unique configuration, it may appear difficult to keep track of them all in order to choose the best one for certain needs. As a result, we’ve already discussed private and shared proxies. This article discusses the notion of proxies that are emi-dedicated, the benefits they provide, and the potential drawbacks associated with their use.

What Is It?

Proxies that are semi-dedicated are those that are shared by multiple users (commonly up to 3). Due to the fact that a small number of users share the same IP address, semi-dedicated proxies act as a bridge between private and shared proxies.

As the name implies, proxies that are semi-dedicated  lack the exclusivity associated with private proxies. As a result, sharing proxies with other users can degrade performance and produce other negative effects. On the other hand, semi-dedicated proxies might be a more cost-effective alternative to shared proxies while offering significantly improved performance.

Advantages of Semi-Dedicated Proxies

We have already discussed the benefits of this type of proxies as a cost-effective alternative to shared and private proxies. Now is the time to delve deeper and outline the primary advantages of these proxies:

  • Less costly. Selling the same proxies to a small number of users enables proxy providers to offer their services at a discount. As a result, semi-dedicated proxies are a more cost-effective option than private proxies. From the user’s perspective, consider the following: imagine you are purchasing a premium product and paying the full price on your own. In contrast to this, you can share the purchase with a few friends and split the costs, creating a win-win situation.
  • HTTP and SOCKS protocols are supported. In fact, it is determined by the proxy type, not by its shared or dedicated nature. However, if a private proxy supporting HTTP/SOCKS protocols is shared by multiple users, it maintains its capabilities.
  • Significantly more stable than shared proxies. In contrast to shared proxies, semi-dedicated proxies restrict access to a single IP address to a small number of users. Because the IP is not used as frequently, the level of business performance improves.
  • Bypass geographical constraints. It is critical to emphasize that this benefit applies to all types of proxies, regardless of whether they are shared or private. As with dedicated proxies, semi-dedicated proxies enable users to circumvent geolocation restrictions and access the web from a specified location.

While proxies that are semi-dedicated have some advantages, their effectiveness is largely dependent on the user’s requirements and the service provider’s reliability.
